Moundsville, West Virginia: New Vrindaban Community

The New Vrindaban Community in Moundsville is a Hare Krishna community.

If it was only a Hare Krishna community I would probably not have made the long drive into these fairly remote hills to seek it out.

What made it interesting to me was its "Palace of Gold": A structure built by Hare Krishna members with the hope that His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (Abhay Charan De) would one day live there.

At every level the Palace of Gold is the work of amateurs. No professional architects or experienced landscapers were involved, and none of the sculptures or paintings on the grounds are the work of trained artists.

Srila Prabhupada died before the Palace was complete, and he neither lived there nor ever saw the completed structure.
