That word and its definition reminded me of the disease-pit seen in today's Big Picture. You can read my comments about this foul hole here.
My Word of the Day is a writing exercise I set up for myself. Months in advance I chose words from my Random Words Page at Wordswarm.net and attempted to write something around each word. It is like those grade school vocabulary quizzes that I remember looking forward to as a child.
The Wordswarm page draws up 1000 random words each day, and links to definitions for those words at my DICT Server. I use the random words as writing prompts.
I stopped doing the Daily Word for a while in favor of other projects, but lately I am catching up on the words I have in the queue. "Lactescent" happened to coincide with my recent observation of the Astoria Diving Pool, and I thought "thick colored juice" was a pretty close description of the liquid seen in this picture -- at least the "thick, colored" part. If this pool is actually being used to ferment some exotic kind of juice then I guess it's all good.
