My interest in the Internal Medicine specialty
My interest in the Internal Medicine specialty was present prior to my
medical school education and continued to be strong during my years
of clinical experience. The year I spent in Mexico was one of great
expansion of my personal fortitude and it allowed me to closely witness
the different realities of the medical system in a third world country.
My decision to attend a different school during my second year was governed
by my hopes to eventually be part of the American medical school system.
My transfer to St.George's University proved to be the appropriate course
to reach my goal. During the two years of clinical sciences at Medical
College of Pennsylvania my original attraction to Internal Medicine
was further solidified through an excellent introductory clinical training.
This latter experience also enabled me to further broaden my perspectives
into the different disciplines of medicine and edify a life long attitude
of flexibility and acceptance towards the new and the different.
As a
medical student the faculty noted my reliability, compassion and inclination
to work hard. As a resident I will also strive for constant improvement
of my knowledge and skills in order to become the best physician that
I can be; I will persevere in every challenge offered to me and attempt
to overcome it with the highest success possible. Additionally, I believe
it is important to apply another's advice or criticism to one's own
experiences and beliefs in order to become a better person as well as
an astute physician. Beyond my residency in Internal Medicine, I am
interested in the subspecialty of Hematology/Oncology which requires
unusual levels of understanding, compassion and consideration. At this
time I believe that I can competently fulfill the demands of an Internal
Medicine residency program and be content during its rigorous course.
The residency
program most suitable to my personality and professional goals would
provide a strong academic environment and support my interest in future
research opportunities. Structured teaching and supervision when needed
would also be crucial to a well rounded program. I am interested in
an institution which will allow me to become an excellent physician
as well as a humanitarian. If given responsibilities early in my residency,
I believe that I can achieve good relationships with my patients which
will ultimately facilitate both their physical and psychological healing
and accomplish a complete cure. I am ready to undertake the responsibilities
of a resident and to offer my strengths and attributes to any institution
which would honor my desire for professional and personal growth.
