This is the first computer I ever used to connect to that new-fangled thang called the Internet. Before finding direct access to the Internet (c. 1993) I called dial-up services like GEnie, CompuServe, and countless FidoNet BBSes.
This computer was given to me by an artist who called himself "Mr. Apology." He ran a telephone art project called the Apology Line, and I used this computer to send him stuff related to that. I transcribed calls from cassette tapes and e-mailed him the transcripts, and we used that material to fill the pages of Apology magazine. We also used some of that material on stickers that we placed around the city. The stickers had brief statements from callers with the phone number to call.
Also on this desk are some 5ΒΌ inch floppy disks, a book by Garrison Keillor, a large volume of poetry, a salt shaker I stole from the company cafeteria, and other delights. The radio is a Sony CFS-DW34 which I bought in 1991 at the Four Seasons Photo and Electronics Shop on 72nd Street. I guess I love the model of desk lamp seen at the far right because I recently bought the exact same model of lamp for $5 at the Salvation Army in Astoria.
