This seemingly spartan sleeping arrangement was positively luxurious to me after 8 or 9 months at Room 317 of the Parc Lincoln and about the same length of time sleeping by the noisy window at 9 Cabrini. Nevertheless, this apartment suffered from thunderous noise emanating from the above ground subway across the street.

The little object hanging from the wall was a Christmas gift to me from Joyce Roché. It is a Christmas tree ornament of a Boxer breed of dog wearing boxing gloves. Joyce said she felt this Boxer represented my personality.

It's strange the things people say about you, and stranger still are the things you remember.
