I am surprised at how few New Yorkers know the answer to this trick question.
The answer is simple: Nobody. Nobody is buried at Grant's Tomb because it is an above-ground mausoleum. Both Ulysses S. Grant and his wife Julia are interred in above-ground crypts which are shown in this set of pictures from Grant's Tomb in Manhattan.
Just a little undertaker humor.
To repeat: Nobody is buried at Grant's Tomb.
