This rotary dial payphone is, I assume, long gone. This phone booth was in the lobby of the Parc Lincoln Hotel at 166 West 75th Street in Manhattan. I took a picture of this phone because this is the phone I most often used to make calls while I lived at the Parc Lincoln. In particular, this is the phone from which I first called the Apology Line, a telephone art project which assumed an important place in my life for a few years.
The lobby of the Parc Lincoln (including the space formerly occupied by this phone booth) is now occupied by an expensive restaurant named 'Cesca. 'Cesca is frequented by Yoko Ono, among others. I do not know the layout of the place now, but it is possible that this very space where I used to sit, stand, and listen to Apology is now inhabited by Ms. Ono. Yoko Ono is an artist whose work I respect, so it is nice to imagine our paths crossed in some way.
