Typos, Engrish, and Other Public Grammar Gaffes
Does New York have more public typographical errors than other cities?
Probably not, but sometimes it seems we have more public, expensively produced typos than one would expect.
I like typos. To me they show character, and at times they help create a level of earnestness absent from perfectly crafted communication. As one who abhors automated spellcheck and computerized grammar suggestions I find that spelling and other errors publicly laid out to dry are a nice reminder that human beings are imperfect, and no amount of peevish grammarian oversight can change that. I am not a grammarian, nor would I ever presume to lecture anyone possessed of less than championship spelling skills.
Most of these are from outdoor signs, but if I spot a glaring spelling error on a web site I'll throw that into the mix, too.
Some of these typos in this series have been in place for years. Others have since been removed or corrected. Some of these pictures are recycled from other parts of this web site, but most are not. Content includes typos, spelling errors, Engrish, and other grammar collapses.
One typo that I've seen numerous times puzzles me: Dinning Room. So far I have seen it one, two, three, four, five, six, seven times!
