Vases Filled
June 28, 2009: Until recently the large vases at the front of the Johnston Tomb were empty. Empty, that is, except for the rain water that filled these vessels and created a breeding ground for mosquitoes and (potentially) West Nile Virus. Concerns over cemeteries as places for West Nile Virus to breed led the cemetery to place signs around the grounds warning visitors against placing vases with water in them at grave sites. These vessels are now full but you can see where they collected a significant amount of rainwater in this earlier picture
