Visited tomb yesterday. My grandmother Mary Schnappauf and my father Leonard Schnappauf are entombed in the crypt. It was a beautiful experience. Hadn't visited since my grandmother passed in 1956.

    Eppig of NY

I am curious about this family. The sister of Cardinal Mundelein (born NY and cardinal of Chicago archdiocese) married an Eppig. Attending Cardinal Mundelein's funeral in Chicago in 1939 were Edward Eppig, a nephew; Mrs. Margaret Eppig, the cardinal's sister; Joseph Eppig, a nephew; and Mrs. James F. Kearney (Rita Eppig), niece. The cardinal's sister Margaret, I believe, was a widow when she and her children moved from New York to Chicago after he was appointed the first cardinal of the Chicago archdiocese. So the Eppigs were New Yorkers as well.

    Leonhard Eppig

I was shocked when I Googled my great-grandfather's name and the family tomb appeared at St. John's. My grandmother spoke of the family tomb many times when I was a child. I would love to see it in person.....not possible at this time.

    Eppig Ancestor

I would love to hear from any of Leonard Eppig's ancestors. My grandfather was John A. Eppig and I was named after the Eppig great-grandmother, Magaret.

I am also a descendant of Leonhard and Margaretha Schwindt Eppig and did quite a bit of geneological research which I would be happy to share. Ann
