<description><![CDATA[I collect slides, film negative strips, and old photos found on sidewalks, in trash cans and at thrift shops, second hand stores, and online auctions. These pages contain thousands of images of amateur photos taken by ordinary Americans from the 1940s through the 1970s, and includes snapshots taken on Kodachrome, Ektachrome, Anscochrome, and many other formats. These pictures continue the <a href="/foundcrap/">Foundcrap</a> series which I started in 1997.  This Ektachrome slide is dated May, 1977. I have no idea who the gentleman in the red pants is, but his smile suggests that he is a descendant of someone interred in this structure. <br />
<br />
This image came from a box full of slides from families and places that had nothing to do with each other, and which were grouped thus so as to make the most money at resale. This can make it difficult to divine any context or establish identities. As a <a href="/cemeteries">cemeterian</a> I get a little thrill from seeing photos from others who have wandered large American cemeteries.]]></description>

An advertisement in the <a href="http://books.google.com/books?id=D-QCAAAAMBAJ&amp;lpg=PA69&amp;dq=%22mccarthy's%20steak%20house%22&amp;client=firefox-a&amp;pg=PA69#v=onepage&amp;q=%22mccarthy's%20steak%20house%22&amp;f=false">May 3, 1976 issue of <i>New York</i> magazine</a> described McCarthy's Steak House as &quot;a favorite of newsmen and celebrities&quot;. Located at 2nd Avenue and 45th Street, the phone number for McCarthy's was (212) 687-6131.]]></description>
