I play these tapes sometimes when I can not make it to a real bar,
or when I simply want to feel like I am somewhere other than where I am.
I do not like loud bars, or any place so loud that conversation is for the loudest yellers.
Until 2002, this was the only bar I visited where the conversation was audible.

My friend Alan was 21 in 1969 when he carried around his newfangled portable cassette recorder and recorded all the
conversations he had. These 4 tapes are of conversations he had with friends and
neighbors in the Bronx in 1969. Despite the
amateur nature of these tapes, they are thoughtfully and elegantly produced.
