my best friend wanted to go into the castro district of san francisco tonight to throw down in the gayest way possible.

we did.

at about 1:30am, my body nursing 5 tom collins', we finally started to lay shit down on the dance floor. it's very crowded. it's very hot.

suddenly, brian grabs my hand. he tells me to trust him. he knows what he's doing.

he drags me across the club. he strolls boldly, and at our destination across the bar, immediately takes a young man by the ears and kisses him passionately. he takes him by the hand, and i continue to follow. we stumble out to castro street. i am utterly confused at this point brian explained to me that this young man, a stranger from across a crowded gay bar, was giving him "the look." mr. hot lover then suggests that brian get me a cab and send me home so they can have a little fun.

i hail a cab back to berkeley, my head swimming. my cab driver immediately engages me in vivid conversation. to make a long story short, my cabbie was the stand-in for hutch in starsky and hutch, now he's a cab driver, and he knows someone who can get me an awesome internship.

as i was exiting the cab (and after paying the $50 fare), my cabbie told me that if i was older, he would have proposed.

that made me feel better, considering my best friend is getting fucked right now after a brief glance across the room while i can't get shit no matter how hard i try.

I saw a lizard on my kitchen ceiling last night. I had just gotten home from seeing a movie and then hanging out in a bar for awhile with friends.

It was scuttling around on the ceiling over the chest of drawers I keep in their. It was a fairly big one - maybe 5 inches from nose to tail. I tried to get a closer look, but it dropped down to the floor behind the drawers.

I was glad to see it, though. I can remember a time when my roommate and I where trying to catch lizards and let them loose in the house to take care of the roaches. They must've been driven inside by the Texas heat...a friend of mine found a lizard in her garbage a few days ago.

I had wondered where all the roaches had gone: I had thought the heat had gotten them or I had killed them all (I was "hints guy" a while back), but apparently I have an ally.

The big jobs, 2 brown and one black, the kind that suddenly scoot real fast, that fly, that attack you and crawl into your clothing, that fall on your head from a height... This was apparently the slow part of the evening for them, and I clobbered one neatly with the garbage can lid. Then i saw the second - on my screen door, inches from the doorknob i was reaching for. Jumped back and surveyed the situation. Lobbed the lid at it, but it was going tharn and not moving. Waited. Waited. Moved around so the automatic light wouldn't go off and leave me in the dark... Finally it began to crawl, very slowly, toward the edge of the door which was slightly cracked open (NO!), past it, along the wall toward the window, up the wall, above the window... I studied my approach and waited for it to get far enough that I would feel safe from its sudden dart should it decide to come my way as I unlocked the door... but it remained motionless. Then I noticed the other one, on the wall a few feet away, motionless except for the 2" feelers waving... Then the other one made a slight movement in the direction of the door... I decided I had to take my chances...

I think I made it. But somehow, I don't really feel safe. And the laundry is going to wait in the car until morning.

This took up maybe 20 minutes of the rapidly dwindling evening, minutes i needed to be spending on last minute work. Typing this message probably took another 10. Good night.

wishing I had a huge Beetle in my bedroom. Those cars are neat looking. The only problem would be how to drive it out of my bedroom without causing too much damage to my apartment....after all, I still want to get my security deposit back.

Oh, unless you mean one of those insect beetles....yeah - those things are gross.

back at work

wishing sorabji owed *her* money

making my last entry before packing the computer and leaving berkeley.

the past two days have been filled with what i love most about this city. smoothies, the homeless crazy drummers in sproul plaza, naked people on telegraph, getting stoned in public, going to safeway to see two topless giggling girls screaming "WE HAVE KITTY LITTER!" in aisle 2, indian food, drunkenness, and talking about gay bars and kipling with two strangers with whom i shared a table today.

i feel sort of dull and bloated, like i've eaten a velvet beachball.

i haven't thought one minute beyond 10pm tonight when my flight takes the air.

i just can't fathom all this ending. i am in total denial.

today i went into my housemate vahid's empty room and rolled around on his sheets. i miss him. i wanted to fall through the bed, through the floor, and into the earth where the city would swallow me whole.

to you, dearest berkeley, i light this bowl. i will see you again soon, i hope. you've changed me.

Sad that the President had to do what he did tonight. Yeah, what he did was wrong, but it's his and his fmamily's business and no one elses.

Orrin Hatch should never have been hatched. They should have done away with him after he humiliated Anita Hill. Regardless of who ultimately was telling the truth, I find it all of no concern to me, even if he lied about it under oath. I know I would be tempted to do such.
