Slacking like it's my job.

I've been tracking my UPS packages all over the place. The one that was supposed to arrive Friday took a merry trip around my state instead of into it. Might be here today. One package out of a pair that were shipped together and shared a tracking number got grievously misrouted to the other end of Montana. The other package of the pair has been sitting in town since 3 am.

UPS is nasty. They demolished a monitor that my friend sent earlier this year. The person who recieved it estimated that they had rammed a rod of some sort through the package into the screen of the monitor.

Boy, did UPS bitch and moan about having to pay for that one... Took the guy over a month to get UPS to admit they had screwed up. Longer to actually get the money. They paid about half what it was worth.

putting the "what the fuck was i thinking" in "Wisconsin".

Got back from Portland. I spent way too little time there, but any more and I wouldn't have come back. I had the absolutest sweetest time (in the literal sense). I got to spend just about every single minute from 9:30pm friday to about midnight last night with my very best friend in the whole world and a close runner-up. Plus a new friend who is so mindblowingly awesome she seems unreal. Plus I got to see my two favorite cats that don't live with me, and eat delicious food for everymeal and go to a museum and send messages to space. Then see movies. and tromp around in washington Park and look at trees and huge-ass jumbo slugs. plus ride the train and go to the kick ass library.
Plus the Bins! Cys, did you ever go to the Bins, which is the gigantic Goodwill in an old factory building, where they are constantly changing the bins of stuff, so there is always new stuff? I got a almost new pair of Doc Martins in my size for $4!

Plus we took lots of photobooth photos but not nearly enough.

Plus great music finds at Everyday music: A slightly scuffed copy of SAndanista! by the Clash for $12 (only one tune skips), Live in Swing City and Big Train by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra w/ Wynton Marsalis, and Negativland's Pepsi album.

Plus some books for my career, and one for pleasure.

Plus lots of hugs and handholding.

God i hate Wisconsin. Please please let me find a job out in the Pacific Northwest!

A fairy tale for the millineum:

Once upon a time, a beautiful, independant young princess happened upon a frog as she sat comtemplating ecological issues near an unpolluted pond near her castle.

The frog said, "If you kiss I'll become a handsome prince and we can marry and live together in yon castle where you can prepare my meals, clean my clothes, bear my children and feel forever grateful doing so.

That night after a fine meal of frog-legs sauteed in butter and wine sauce, she thought to herself:

I don't freakin' think so.

listening to the Damage Manual and musing on coincidental media events in my personal experience this weekend.
Example #1: The song on the Damage Manual album I am listening to now contains a sample of Huun-Huur-Tu, which is the other album I picked up yesterday.

Example #2: This weekend I rented Being John Malkovich and American Movie (neither of whcih I had seen previously). I noticed in the credits for BJM that Michael stipe was co-producer. "Oh," Ithought, "Didn't know that he did such a thing."

Then the next night I watched American Movie (Three thumbs way the fuck up, btw, this should be the next movie you all see) and in the credits: Stipe, co-producer. I turned off the VCR and there was R.E.M on Saturday Night Live. Eerie to say the least.

The damage Manual is highly recommended for fans of post-punk. Very great music with Chris Connely on vox, Geordie from Killing Joke on guitar, Jah Wobble on bass, and Martin Atkins on drums. It was co-engineered by my friend Jason McNinch.

Huun-Huur-Tu is an ablum by an ensemble from the region of Tuva in southern siberia ,and what they do is sing their traditional songs. The catch is, that these singers can sing three notes at once due to amazing control over the harmonics in their voices. It all sounds like something weird and electronic, but it's actually an old style of singing.
