Clif bars are great. They are energy bars with soy protein and 23 vitamins and minerals. They are a lot better than Power Bars and come in all kinds of nifty flavors, like Cranberry-Apple-Cherry, Peanut Butter Crunch, Carrot Cake, Ginger Snap, Cookies-n-Cream, and so on. They are kosher and wheat, egg, & dairy free. They are also a nice do-gooder company.
They have a website. I used to order them in bulk when I wasn't near a store that sold them and I didn't have a car.

They are talking about the Central Park Jogger Trial, which is about to rear its ugly head again? When I first moved here I remember hearing all kinds of intricate details on the radio about that event. I remember working a $10/hour job in the basement of a hotel/condo on 2nd Avenue/57th Street right after they announced the verdict. And I thought I was gonna get my ass kicked. Well, maybe I did get my ass kicked. Aah, now the guy with the deranged voice is reciting lottery and powerball numbers. If you missed your lucky number you'll find it on their web site.

- prepping
i have a big shoot tomorrow.
Almost a weeks salary in one day.
Its a pin up calendar. Two porn/web girls and one "Bud Light" girl (as I call her).
The theme is shooting them with Grip accessories in seductive ways. Grip, as in key grip, dolly grip, best boy for films. A pin up calendar for these types of folks.
Why? Well the idea is actually a great one. Most of those types are very blue collar, union men (and a few women), teamsters etc etc. Tight knit bunch. Love beer, sports and their jobs and what better than to offer a pin up calendar catering to them.
It will be shot with various grip related imagery. Gaffer tape, "grip clips", dolly track, apple boxes, camo netting, hemp rope, etc etc. Tools of the trade.
Should be interesting as the 'producer' (i.e. the financier) is running it like a movie production.
Its amusing to watch him stress. For such a large production im cool and calm.
He wants to light the bitch like mad. I keep reminding him we don't need that much juice. He freaked out when the hair guy cancelled, leaving him with 2 make up people, who I say will do just fine on hair. I have good pal of mine acting as AD (asst. director) who is my right hand man. Both he and the producer are Grips, hence their know-how. And in true grip/crewman fashion they are spending an extraordinary amount & money determing craft services (i.e. food/lunch).
This whole thing is turning out to be one big ass amusement for me.
I keep telling them to relax, that all will pan out, that they don't need to kiss the girls' asses as much since they ARE getting paid to do this. They ARE in porn, so they'll be glad we are just shooting risque shots rather than asking them to take it in the ass. *laughs* that would cost so much more money.

9/18/2002, 11:22 AM
Spider is:
- You can be shaped without padding. Enough with the padding!
I'm not Sem, but I can tell you that liminality is the quality of being just barely perceptible. Liminal comes from the word that means threshold, so saying a sound is liminal meaning it's just barely audible. Liminoid must be another form of liminal.
My beloved Roman professor also used liminal to mean a different kind of threshold -- he would talk about liminal moments, the moments in which you (or the world, or society) pass from one stage into another.

"you should get a clue about posting condescending 'advice' to someone (who i assume you do not know,) in the public forum of something that belongs to him."
this is really interesting. this "public forum" is just that. a web site that poses the question "what are you doing?" appears to evoke DISCUSSION. that is all i'm trying to do,...have a discussion. however, this is a public forum that is really an "inside joke" for a select few.
"questioning the lives of others, especially those of which you have only seen a glimpse, is arrogant not to mention lame."
bottom line,...you do it to me every time i post.
and now,...agatha. i'm really happy that you have an up close and personal relationship with mark. it must be wonderful to know and understand him as you do. i saw in him someone very much like myself and i wanted to get to know him. unfortunately, i had to deal instead with all of you who want to protect him. are any of you musicians? he never has to defend himself. he has all of you to do that for him. that's fine. i don't dislike mark. i just wanted to establish a dialogue.

The FBI profilers theorized that this bio terror counter measures expert was doing what he thought was a patriotic act by showing how vulnerable U.S. was to foreign biological attack through mail in order to increase funding for the work he was engaged in. i.e: BioTerror Counter-measures. There was a 90minute BBC/Frontline documentary broadcast on PBS 2 weeks ago tonight that made the case for this. The suspect list had been narrowed down to just two people . . . both scientists working at the U.S. bio-terror countermeasure center located at Fort Detrick, Maryland. When the FBI requested samples of handwritten documents by both of these men, who were the only two suspects, in order to nail the culprit, the FBI was suddenly faced with a brick wall that stymied their investigation. The request for the handwriting samples was declined by the CIA in the interest of "National Security."

- WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) - A strong earthquake ( news - web sites) struck east of New Zealand on Wednesday, but caused no injuries or damage.
The Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences said the quake of magnitude 6.3 struck at 1:31 a.m. and was centered 331 miles from the North Island's east coast 318 miles below sea level.
Some 14,000 quakes are recorded in and around New Zealand each year, but on average only 100-150 are big enough to be felt by residents.
New Zealand sits astride the boundary of the Pacific and Australian tectonic plates, which grind against each other on the earth's crust, creating much of the country's earthquake and volcanic activity.

It was right after I got home from WV and I had a bad cold and my s/o was in the hospital,it was about 3 in the morning when finally the phone woke me up and it was the Chandler police telling me to go open my front door, which I did and the cops where all pissed off cause apparently they had been trying to wake me up for a long time. They told me that they had been at my front door and then they went to my front yard to discuss what to do and when they tried to go to my door again the gate was locked and they had to climb over it,that just didn't register with me at 3 a.m. and on medication, but I did look around here and I didn't find him and I told them he wasn't here.I found out later that he was but I didn't know that at the time or God knows I would have told them as I am sick of being a prisnor in my own house.I went to get out of my room and had to go back in there to get the key to let myself out to answer the door.Anyway two weeks after that we had a "neighborhood speacialist" from the Chandler Police department come here and tell us we had a zoneing violation because our storage shed my husband had just built and lost a toe over I might add shared a common wall even though he asked our neighbors permission first so I knew it was one of the cops that had reported this,I went to the police station, paid them five bucks and found out I was right. So we took about half the storage shed,it was no longer sharing a common wall and I thought that would be the end of it,but no we had to turn in plans to the city who had no problem with it and they told me the police department was the ones that had a problem with it.This all started back in May and the "case" is under investigation, what a crock of shit, seriously.

- you know, mark, it's incredible that you talk about the "rigors" of recording on the same day that i went into the studio for the first time in years. i'm producing an album for the lead soprano in my choir and she has never heard her own voice on tape let alone worked in a recording studio. all of a sudden, she hears "things" in her voice that she never heard before. she hates her own voice. she thinks everything we've recorded sucks. i have to calm her and explain that in live performance, "things" go by and are promptly forgotten. when you try to do something permanent, like a recording, you start hearing all the little flaws,...except that a lot of those "flaws" are not noticed by the average listener. sometimes, the best "take" in a recording session is the one that is most visceral(?) rather than the most technically perfect.
look, mark, i enjoy listening to your piano performances, please give us the peformances with emotion even if they are not technically perfect.

- wishing for more rain.
after months and months without, we finally got some much needed rain this weekend.
what is particularly notable is the effect it has on the people as much as it does everything else.
The roads get 5 months of crud washed off, plants glisten...refurbishing their brown with green in just a matter of days. The air becomes crips. You can literally see the crud washed away by noticing the black on your windowsill after a rain. In general after it rains in LA, considering the fires and smoke as of late...humans sigh, relish and relax.
As did we, saturday night. We watched a scary movie based on true evetns (those are the best eh?) called The Mothman Prophecies. We watched it with our patio door open despite the chill it let in just so we could hear the splatter of rain in the courtyard.
We never made it all the way through the movie. We had worked all day Sat and were exhausted but part of me also thinks she and i we're just excited to go to bed with rain gently tapping on the ceiling and the occasional "swoooooooshhhhhhhhh" of a car driving by.

- I miss the rain. And the "swooooooshhhh." I had forgetten that sound. I just washed my car today, which usually makes it rain, but it's hot and sunny without a cloud in the sky. I vacuumed the inside, too, and wiped down all the plastic/rubber bits. I used to keep my car cleaner than I do now. But it's still pretty clean, I guess, compared to some people.
In my car:
glove compartment:
registration, insurance, hint mints, peach smints, tylenol for all the people that get headaches riding in my car for some reason, spare D batteries, valve caps, tape cases (sem's tape and another one), change for meters. I think that's it. I might have to go check.
In the drink holders:
dried roses. lots and lots of them.
Rolling around under my seat:
super mongo gargantuan flashlight. both for lighting and beating purposes.
That's pretty much it. Those little mats. And then the spare tire and all that rot in the back.
I'm so tired. Bleh. Riding BART today crunched into the back of an east indian businessmen, I started looking around at the other passengers and trying to figure out who got some last night. These east bay folks are pretty tight with their emotions, I guess. There were a couple, maybe two or three, who had that hint of self satisfied smirk, but that was it. Maybe that was it in general. Maybe no one in the East Bay gets any. That would be sad.
