I also use Altavista's Random Image link for my browser home page. These links perform poorly compared to the Yahoo link, but their content is more interesting.

Friends and acquaintances send me links to interesting or funny pages all the time, but by the time those links settle down to me through the usual channels they either have or will soon be seen by thousands of people and added to "Cool Links" pages across the globe within the hour, culminating in a no-traffic-driving blurb in Entertainment Weekly. I do not endeavor to perpetuate any of these little vortexes of fame that certain websites pass into.

I usually update this page when I am intoxicated, depressed, bored to the point of desperation, or all three of those things.

I try to avoid linking to Angelfire or other sites that punish you with pop-up windows (I even considered getting a Net-Nanny type of program that would prevent me from accidentlly landing on any Angelfire pages), but occasionally there is interesting stuff on those pages, and in general (for whatever reason) I am continually captivated by having things I would never otherwise see thrust into my face. I find the world to be a lot more interesting this way, and for some reason I find news stories to be somewhat poignant 2 or 3 years after they were first reported. I am also someone who savors the mundane.
